Just like many other things in our lives, job market is unfair. Many of us don't know that the average salary is much higher than what we get paid for in the area. This is the reason this project exists. This project, salary.center, means to close the information gap among employees who are still wondering how much the jobs are supposed to be paid.

I don't want to calculate how long we spend our lives working on jobs, but I want to emphasize the importance of fairness in salary as the fairness we care in our lives. I had few unpleasant and helpless experience, and then, I discovered this dataset. I immediately realized the value of it, which sparked the need for me to make it easily accessible for everyone in the job market.

The dataset contains official H1B and PERM filing records with reported base salaries from the U.S. Department of Labor since 2001. I did my best effort to clean the dataset on certain fields and consolidate them into a database. I found the salary numbers are very off on few records. Although the size is neglectable, I still kept them as I respect the truth of original filing and believe the possiblity of making mistakes. Some people may not find what they are looking for by company or by title as this is limited only to H1B and PERM records. I believe these numbers can give the rough idea of what range they should be looking for.

I will keep updating the database as the new data comes out every three months. In addition, I will run some data analysis and make some visualizations to help people better understand the job market.
Finally, please make any suggestions or requests on how to make this a better tool by sending me emails at [email protected].
